- Freely swinging instead of permanently fixed -
The traditional method of playing the drums in military music served as the sound model for the new Kolberg snare drum-stand FS (free suspended). Whilst marching the player hangs the drum around his neck and his body serves as a natural vibrating element. Kolberg Percussion is now bringing this freely swinging sound ideal to the concert stage. The snare drum swings within a stylish ring, secured by special rubber cords. The sound of the shell unfolds and the snares respond delicately and precisely. Generally speaking the entire sound pattern appears more open and freer. The usual rigid fixation principle of clamping the snare drum by the counterhoop of its resonant head in metal struts and subjecting it to direct contact with the ground is now a thing of the past.
One has quickly got used to this new playing experience. One would not like to miss this sound experience - true to the motto "The snare drum should sound free and not simply be hit!" (Richard Hochrainer, "Wiener Schlagwerkschule/Vienna School of Drumming").
