Yamaha has improved the dynamic range of the new Live Custom kits by accentuating their attack and projection. The new 7-ply oak leaf/phenolic hybrid shell and bass-enhancing weight deliver massive power and articulation, especially for playing live. In addition, the new finishing technique based on the traditional Japanese “UZUKURI” process highlights the natural beauty of the oak grain.

The Live Custom Hybrid Oak shell concept is borrowed from our flagship PHX and Absolute Hybrid Maple kits, which feature a dense phenolic sheet sandwiched between two sheets of oak plywood. Always a pioneer in the field of Oak drums, Yamaha has enriched the dynamic range of the new Live Custom kits by accentuating their attack and projection.

The traditional Japanese finishing technique known as "UZUKURI" has been modified for use on drum shells. In this procedure, soft areas of the wood grain are sanded and then the entire hull is covered with a thin layer of black paint. The entire hull surface is then sanded again before the final coating is applied, in a process that highlights the natural beauty of the oak grain.

Features:

Featuring an Absolute Lug-inspired design, weights nailed into the bass drum at the lugs attenuate low and mid frequencies, resulting in a tight, focused bass drum sound.

The Dark Silver hardware offers a dominant image further reinforced by the black interiors of the hull.

The hulls feature Yamaha's exclusive Absolute dropouts. Their sophisticated design adds a touch of class to the drums.

The bass drums feature die-cast hooks, which provide noise-free functionality through the use of an insert plate.

The floor tom mount includes wing bolts. It is designed to grip the leg tightly without damaging it, saving time on stage and providing optimal decline control.

An evolutionary step forward from our YESS II m tom stand, the YESS III reduces acoustic damping even further. Allowing the shell to vibrate more freely, the YESS III mount brings out more of the shell's natural sustain and volume.

The thicker steel hoops deliver a tighter sound and crisper response, and the toms and floor toms feature clear Remo Emperor heads, known for their deep sound and great durability.
