Hand-hammered copper shell, polished and varnished
Hand-fabricated shell made of high-quality timpani copper (thickness: 1,25 mm). The rims of the shells are rounded and reinforced so that the head has a firm and stable support. (Utilizing the same principle of a reinforcement ring used traditionally in wooden shells.)

Throw-off mechanism "piano-forte op. 1"
The innovative Kolberg snare throw-off mechanism "piano-forte op. 1" impresses with its elegant design, perfect construction and an extremely fine mechanical regulation of the snares:
Spiral and gut snares with tension regulation (patent pending)
Similar to standard production of spiral snares, our innovative production method bundles the single strands to form a unit of parallel-tensioned wires with a metal brace at each end. This snare unit is equipped with an extra tension spindle. Thus, all wires or strands are perfectly and equally tensioned at production. Using the Allen key, you can tighten or slacken the overall tension which is regulated by the spindle. This way you can regulate the sound to meet the demands of the composition or of the acoustic situation. The drum can be equipped either with a high-end tension-controlled single spiral snare unit or with a combination of up to six different types of strands in one unit. As standard equipment we recommend the single spiral snare unit (20 strands, 614TKS20). For symphony orchestras a mixed unit with 6 gut strings and 5 metal spiral strands (614STKSN6T) is recommended.
